Answer the questions:
- Where do I want to go, and how far away is it?
- How often do I need or want to go there?
- What options are available to me?
- Can I combine a trip or use two modes to get there?
Example: “I want to go to the senior center once a week on Tuesday mornings. It’s a mile away. I could get a ride from my friend who is still driving, or I could take the municipal van, or I could get a Lyft ride through Go Go Grandparent. I know the municipal van will be there to take me home.”
Owning and operating a vehicle can be more expensive than you think! By writing down your actual
expenses, you can get an idea of how much money could be available for alternative transportation if you were to stop driving. Download the Hartford’s Transportation Cost Worksheet to calculate your options.
